Bıttım trees, which grow in many villages across the province of Bitlis, have for many years failed to provide sufficient income for the local population. This has directly affected living standards in the region and increased the need for alternative sources of income. In response to this need, the project was launched to improve local income levels by converting bıttım trees into pistachio trees with high economic value.
| Project Details: | Implemented in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, the project’s initial phase involved the pruning of 4,350 bıttım trees to prepare them for pistachio grafting. With grafting operations carried out during the spring months, the income levels of approximately 100 families are expected to increase significantly. In 2024, a total of 31,800 grafting buds of the Siirt pistachio variety were grafted onto 4,350 bıttım trees. |
